Job Summary

To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Outpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting diagnoses and procedures for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:
  • Review medical records to identify and code appropriate diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
  • Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
  • Interact with physicians to clarify and document patient diagnostic and procedural information as necessary
Required qualifications:
  • Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
  • High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
  • Active certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies
  • Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
