Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of medical records, the full-time California Licensed Outpatient Coder will work remotely to assign appropriate ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes for outpatient services, including those requiring monitored anesthesia and conscious sedation.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures in compliance with regulatory guidelines
- Ensure timely coding and data abstraction while maintaining accuracy and integrity of coded data
- Interact with physicians to clarify documentation and ensure proper coding of patient information
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completed coursework in medical terminology, anatomy, and coding conventions
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
