Job Summary
Under direct supervision, the full-time California Licensed Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Organize and prioritize work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to coding
- Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting
