Job Summary
To support accurate medical documentation, the full-time California Licensed Outpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services while working remotely in Northern California.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements and established productivity standards
- Interact with physicians to clarify and document patient information accurately
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Relevant coding certification such as Registered Health Information Technician or Certified Professional Coder
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for the position
