Job Summary
To support the coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines while working remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology and coding classes from an accredited program
- Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes relevant to coding
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
