Job Summary
To support accurate coding practices, the full-time California Licensed Outpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while working remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to accurately identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient information and maintain data integrity prior to submission or coding completion
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or similar credential
- Knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations, including ICD-CM and CPT
- Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding tasks
