California Licensed Payroll Director

Job Summary

Leading payroll operations for a multi-entity, multi-state organization, the full-time salaried California Licensed Payroll Director will manage payroll administration, ensure compliance with regulations, and drive process modernization initiatives in a remote capacity.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing, including taxes, deductions, and off-cycle payments
• Develop and implement payroll strategies, policies, and operational processes to support organizational growth
• Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll operations, compliance, and systems, partnering with cross-functional teams

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field; CPP Certification preferred
• Minimum of seven years of progressive payroll experience in complex, multi-state organizations
• At least three years of experience leading payroll teams at a managerial level or higher
• Demonstrated experience with Workday implementation and strong knowledge of its HCM modules
• Deep understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, particularly California labor laws
