California Payroll Lead

Job Summary

Overseeing payroll activities for approximately 2,000 employees, the full-time California Payroll Lead will ensure compliance with regulations, manage payroll processing, and provide guidance to the Senior Payroll Specialist in a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage accurate and timely payroll processing, auditing, and reporting for exempt and non-exempt employees while ensuring compliance with government regulations
• Act as a backup to the Payroll Manager, including closing payroll and performing required audits and post-payroll tasks
• Provide leadership and direction to the Senior Payroll Specialist, supporting high-priority customer service matters and payroll-related inquiries

Required qualifications

• 5-7 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience, preferably with UKG Pro systems
• Associate's degree in accounting or related field preferred
• Solid understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws, including California regulations
• Minimum of one year of accounting experience
• Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred
