Job Summary
To support a major Federal Library project, the part-time Cataloger will provide high-quality PCC-level cataloging for English language materials, working remotely for approximately 10-20 hours per week.
Key responsibilities
- Create PCC BIBCO-level catalog records for various subject areas, excluding Law and Music
- Classify materials using Library of Congress Classification and assign subject headings using Library of Congress Subject Headings
- Update name authority records to NACO standards and recommend new Library of Congress Subject Headings or classification numbers
Required qualifications
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
- 2+ years of original cataloging experience in an academic or research library
- Expert knowledge of LCSH, LCC, MARC21, and other cataloging standards
- Demonstrated history of BIBCO- and NACO-level cataloging
- Familiarity with Classification Web, Cataloger's Desktop, and the LC Authorities list
