Certified Coding Specialist

Job Summary

To support a growing healthcare practice, the full-time Certified Coding Specialist will review medical documentation, assign appropriate codes (ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT), and ensure compliance with coding standards while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Review and audit medical records to accurately reflect healthcare coding and substantiate appropriate service reimbursement
• Convey coding guidelines to healthcare providers to improve the accuracy of medical record documentation
• Monitor and validate physician charge capture and participate in coding team meetings as a subject matter expert

Required qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Certification in Coding required
• Specific knowledge of diagnostic and procedural terminology, ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding schemes preferred
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required
• Successful coursework from an accredited institution in medical terminology or human anatomy/physiology is preferred
• If not certified at hire, must obtain certification within one year of the date of hire
