Certified Coding Specialist

Job Summary

Working remotely on a full-time basis, a Certified Coding Specialist will review medical documentation, assign appropriate codes (ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT), and ensure compliance with coding standards while collaborating with medical professionals to enhance documentation accuracy.

Key responsibilities

• Review and audit medical records to assign diagnostic and procedure codes accurately
• Support technical and professional services in provider clinics and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC)
• Participate in coding team meetings and serve as a subject matter expert on coding guidelines

Required qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Certification in Coding required
• Knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding schemes preferred
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent required, with certification to be obtained within one year if not already certified
• Experience with Athena and Paragon systems is ideal
• Understanding of National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and relative value units
