Certified Coding Specialist

Job Summary

Demonstrating advanced coding expertise, the full-time Certified Coding Specialist will independently code complex inpatient and outpatient services, resolve coding edits, and assist in addressing coding-related inquiries while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes using appropriate classification systems and guidelines
• Review documentation to accurately assign outpatient procedure codes and maintain compliance with official coding standards
• Collaborate with revenue cycle teams to resolve billing issues and provide feedback on coding quality

Required qualifications

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent coding certification
• High School Diploma or GED with advanced coder competency exam completion
• Five years of hospital-based coding experience, including complex CPT surgical coding and advanced ICD-10-CM-PCS coding
• Proficiency in electronic health records (EPIC) and encoder systems (3M)
• Ability to maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or greater on audit reviews
