Certified Coding Specialist
Job Summary
Working remotely full-time, the Certified Coding Specialist will perform coding and abstracting of inpatient medical records, ensuring accurate diagnosis and procedure coding to optimize reimbursement in compliance with guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Examines medical records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures with 95% accuracy
- Abstracts and enters coded information into EPIC for timely billing, ensuring correct discharge disposition
- Identifies and applies Present on Admission indicators to diagnoses according to designated guidelines
Required qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Previous experience or training in coding inpatient medical records is required
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred
