Certified Coding Specialist
Job Summary
To support accurate billing and compliance, the full-time Certified Coding Specialist will perform coding and abstracting of inpatient medical records remotely, ensuring optimal DRG assignment and adherence to coding guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Examines medical records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures with 95% accuracy
- Abstracts and enters coded information into EPIC for timely billing while maintaining productivity standards
- Identifies and applies Present on Admission indicators and refers unclear documentation to a Coding Quality Specialist
Required qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- Previous experience or training in coding inpatient medical records is required
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is required
- Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred
