Certified Hospital Coding Specialist

Job Summary

Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the Certified Hospital Coding Specialist will manage the complete and accurate coding of Same Day Surgery and Outpatient Observation visits across the Orlando Health system, ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform review and analysis of clinical documentation to accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 classification systems
• Communicate collaboratively with healthcare team members and ensure medical necessity coverage through thorough documentation review
• Maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards while participating in quality assurance studies and educational activities

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree, or completion of a coding certificate program
• Must maintain certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or similar coding credential
• Minimum of 2 years of hospital coding experience
• Thorough knowledge of coding classification systems and medical terminology
• Ability to score 90% or better on the Orlando Health level II coding skills test
