Certified Hospital Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support outpatient hospital operations, the full-time Certified Hospital Outpatient Coder will assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes, review HCPCS charges, and monitor work queues while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and coding guidelines
• Review HCPCS charges for appropriateness of modifiers and enter accurate charge information as needed
• Generate coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation and stay updated on coding conventions

Required qualifications

• High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification
• No prior coding experience required
