Job Summary
Under direct supervision, the full-time Certified Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with relevant coding guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of medical records to meet regulatory standards
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to meet productivity and quality standards established for the position
