Certified Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support a national portfolio of health systems, the fully remote Certified Inpatient Coder will review high-acuity inpatient encounters, assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and DRGs, and ensure compliance with coding guidelines while maintaining high-quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review inpatient encounters and assign accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and DRGs
• Critically read documentation and escalate gaps when coding does not align with services provided
• Ensure compliance with CMS requirements, payer-specific rules, and official coding guidelines

Required qualifications

• Active RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS credential
• 3+ years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting; 5+ years preferred for select client engagements
• Fluency with EHR systems (Epic, Cerner), encoders, and CAC platforms (Solventum, Optum)
• Ability to work independently and recognize when to seek clarification
