Certified Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

Providing critical assessment of health record documentation, the full-time Certified Inpatient Coder will accurately identify diagnoses and procedures for ICD-10-CM/PCS coding and MS-DRG assignment while working remotely from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Key responsibilities

• Assess health record documentation to identify primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures for accurate coding
• Abstract and compile clinical data elements according to organizational guidelines
• Collaborate with physicians and Clinical Documentation Specialists to resolve documentation ambiguities for compliance and accuracy

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; completion of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding program required
• 3 years of inpatient coding experience in a large, complex acute healthcare setting required
• CCS, CIC, RHIT, or RHIA certification required upon hire
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines and encoder software
• Ability to mentor less experienced coders and assess coding accuracy
