Job Summary
Working remotely on a full-time basis, the Certified Inpatient Coder will code medical information into billing systems, ensuring accurate assignment of diagnoses and compliance with coding guidelines across multiple facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Codes inpatient medical records, including major traumas and NICU records, using ICD and ICD-PCS codes
- Ensures appropriate assignment of diagnoses present on admission (POA) indicators and verifies DRG assignments
- Reviews work queues for coding prioritization and follows up on on-hold accounts for final coding
Required qualifications
- Certification Program or Associate degree or Coding Certificate through AHIMA or an approved coding certification program
- Three years of coding experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting, with inpatient coding experience preferred
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) certification
- Familiarity with EPIC health information systems is preferred
- Successful completion of the IP Coder Associate program may be considered in lieu of education and experience requirements
