Job Summary
To support health information management, the full-time Certified Inpatient Coder will code medical information into billing systems, ensuring accurate assignment of diagnoses and compliance with coding guidelines while working remotely during daytime hours.
Key responsibilities
- Codes inpatient medical records, including major traumas and NICU cases, using ICD and ICD-PCS codes
- Reviews and prioritizes work queues for timely coding and follows up on on-hold accounts
- Collaborates with clinical documentation specialists to resolve documentation queries and ensure accurate coding
Required qualifications
- Certification Program or Associate degree or Coding Certificate through an approved coding certification program
- Three years of coding experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting, with inpatient coding experience preferred
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) credential
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and coding software
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and MS DRG payment systems
