Certified Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding operations at Redwood City Hospital, the full-time Certified Inpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract inpatient cases from medical records, utilizing ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Key responsibilities:

• Review medical record documentation to identify and code diagnoses and procedures
• Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments
• Verify and abstract data for reporting while maintaining accuracy and integrity in coding

Required qualifications:

• Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding coursework
• Certification as a Coding Specialist, Health Information Technician, or Health Information Administrator
• Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the KP Inpatient Coding test
