Job Summary
To support accurate coding and compliance in a remote environment, the full-time Certified Inpatient Coder will review and abstract inpatient medical records, assign appropriate ICD-10 codes for diagnoses and procedures, and ensure adherence to federal and state reporting requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews medical record documentation to identify and accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 coding conventions
- Queries physicians for clarification on documentation when code assignments are unclear or inadequate
- Maintains compliance with coding guidelines and meets established productivity standards while minimizing errors
Required qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred
- Certification as a Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) or equivalent coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC required
- Three years of inpatient hospital coding experience required, with preference for experience in a level 1 trauma facility
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding, along with human anatomy and medical terminology
- Proficient in navigating a Windows-based application environment
