Job Summary
To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time remote Certified Inpatient Coder will code and abstract inpatient cases, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations while interacting with healthcare providers for clarification as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS systems
- Organizes and prioritizes coding assignments to meet productivity and quality standards while ensuring timely and compliant data submission
- Interacts with physicians to clarify diagnostic and procedural information, ensuring accurate documentation and coding
Required qualifications
- Three years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical coding classes from an accredited program
- Certified Coding Specialist OR Registered Health Information Technician OR Registered Health Information Administrator certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes
- Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting
