Certified Inpatient Coding Specialist

Job Summary

To support the health information management team, the full-time Certified Inpatient Coding Specialist will perform coding and abstracting of medical records remotely, ensuring accurate diagnosis and procedure coding while maintaining compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities:

• Examine medical records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures with a target accuracy of 96%
• Abstract and enter coded information into the Epic system for timely billing, adhering to productivity standards
• Process provider queries and collaborate with coding staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding practices

Required qualifications:

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification (required)
• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Minimum of 1 year of experience coding inpatient medical records (required)
• Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field (preferred)
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification (preferred)
