Certified Medical Coder

Job Summary

A company is looking for a Certified Coder for a full-time remote position.

Key Responsibilities

• Code inpatient, observation outpatient, short stay surgery, emergency room, and diagnostic/therapeutic outpatient medical records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 guidelines
• Assign codes to diagnostic and procedural statements in patient medical records to ensure accurate coding and optimal DRG/CPT assignment
• Maintain accountability for the accuracy of coding to prevent improper billing

Required Qualifications

• High School Graduate/Equivalent; 1 - 2 years of Technical/College preferred
• 1 - 3 years of inpatient/outpatient coding experience in an acute care facility utilizing an EMR system
• Active certification from AAPC (CPC) or AHIMA (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P)
• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software
