Certified Medical Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding department, the full-time Certified Medical Coder will review, abstract, and assign medical codes in compliance with regulations, while working remotely and managing high volumes of coding tasks independently.

Key responsibilities

• Accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT codes, ensuring compliance with coding, billing, and data collection regulations
• Provide guidance to healthcare staff on current coding practices and regulatory changes
• Review and analyze provider documentation to obtain necessary information for accurate coding

Required qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• Successful completion of the UNC HCS SS Rev Cycle Physician Coder Proficiency Test
• Successful completion of the UNCH Coder Proficiency Test
• Two years of physician medical coding experience
• Certification from AAPC or AHIMA
