Certified Medical Coder

Job Summary

To support a variety of coding services, the full-time Certified Medical Coder will review medical documentation, assign appropriate codes (ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT), and ensure compliance with coding standards while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical documentation and assign diagnostic and procedure codes according to official classification systems
• Monitor and validate physician charge capture and support appeals management for coding denials
• Convey coding guidelines to medical professionals to enhance documentation accuracy

Required qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Certification in Coding required
• Knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding schemes preferred
• Certification such as CPC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or COC required; must obtain certification within one year if not certified at hire
• Successful completion of coursework in medical terminology or human anatomy/physiology is preferred
