Certified Medical Coder

Job Summary

To support hospital coding needs, the full-time Certified Medical Coder will review, abstract, and assign medical codes for inpatient services while ensuring compliance with regulations in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Accurately assigns ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient cases, excluding the academic medical center
• Participates in DRG Reconciliation and analyzes information for optimal reimbursement
• Provides guidance on coding practices and clarifies documentation with healthcare providers

Required qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• Successful completion of the UNC HCS IP Coder Proficiency Test
• Certification from AHIMA or AAPC
• Two years of experience in hospital coding
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding and medical terminology
