Job Summary
To support hospital coding needs, the full-time Certified Medical Coder will review, abstract, and assign medical codes for inpatient services while ensuring compliance with regulations in a remote work environment.
Key responsibilities
- Accurately assigns ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient cases, excluding the academic medical center
- Participates in DRG Reconciliation and analyzes information for optimal reimbursement
- Provides guidance on coding practices and clarifies documentation with healthcare providers
Required qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Successful completion of the UNC HCS IP Coder Proficiency Test
- Certification from AHIMA or AAPC
- Two years of experience in hospital coding
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding and medical terminology
