Job Summary
To support the coding needs of a healthcare facility, the full-time Certified Medical Coder III will review, abstract, and assign medical CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes for professional services while ensuring compliance with regulations and optimizing reimbursement in a remote work environment.
Key responsibilities
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and HCPCS/CPT codes for chronic conditions and services provided
- Analyze coding information to ensure optimal reimbursement and compliance with coding regulations
- Provide guidance to healthcare staff on current coding practices and resolve coding edits as needed
Required qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Successful completion of the UNC HCS Hospital OP Coder Proficiency Test
- AHIMA or AAPC certification and credential
- Two years of experience in hospital coding
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding systems
