Certified Medical Coder III

Job Summary

To support the coding needs of a healthcare facility, the full-time Certified Medical Coder III will review, abstract, and assign medical CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes for professional services while ensuring compliance with regulations and optimizing reimbursement in a remote work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and HCPCS/CPT codes for chronic conditions and services provided
• Analyze coding information to ensure optimal reimbursement and compliance with coding regulations
• Provide guidance to healthcare staff on current coding practices and resolve coding edits as needed

Required qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• Successful completion of the UNC HCS Hospital OP Coder Proficiency Test
• AHIMA or AAPC certification and credential
• Two years of experience in hospital coding
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding systems
