Certified Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support compliant coding practices, the fully remote Certified Outpatient Coder will review medical records and assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM codes, and modifiers for various outpatient services while ensuring adherence to coding guidelines and quality metrics.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign accurate CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10-CM codes, and modifiers
• Ensure documentation supports coded services and identify or escalate discrepancies
• Maintain compliance with CMS, payer-specific rules, and official coding guidelines

Required qualifications

• Active credentials: CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT
• Minimum of 3+ years of outpatient coding experience across multiple service types
• Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and NCCI edits
• Familiarity with CMS guidelines and outpatient workflows
• Expertise in E/M coding and diagnosis assignment for clinic-based services
