Certified Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the Certified Outpatient Coder will interpret clinical documentation to assign appropriate ICD-CM and CPT codes, ensuring coding accuracy and compliance with guidelines while maintaining productivity standards.

Key responsibilities:

• Analyze medical records to assign ICD-CM and CPT codes based on documentation and official coding guidelines
• Verify documentation to substantiate assigned codes and assist in resolving incomplete or missing chart documentation
• Participate in coding audits and maintain a coding accuracy rate of at least 95% for optimal reimbursement

Required qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Medical coding certification preferred
• Knowledge of ICD-CM and CPT coding systems, as well as third-party payer requirements
• Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload effectively
• Three years of medical abstraction and outpatient coding experience preferred
