Certified Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support the coding department, the full-time Certified Outpatient Coder will assign codes to medical diagnoses and procedures, review medical records for accurate coding, and communicate with supervisors regarding compliance and documentation issues, all while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical records to determine appropriate diagnostic and procedural code assignments
• Assigns charges for applicable clinics and departments as necessary
• Seeks clarification from healthcare providers to ensure accurate coding and enhances skills through continuing education

Required qualifications

• High School diploma or GED
• Coding-related certification from AHIMA or AAPC as determined at position level
• Additional certifications such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, or CPC-H within one year
