Certified Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To ensure accurate coding for outpatient hospital encounters, the full-time Certified Outpatient Coder will assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and applicable modifiers while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Codes medical record documentation for various outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding policies and guidelines
• Collaborates with Clinical Documentation Improvement, billing, and revenue integrity teams to enhance documentation and optimize reimbursement
• Meets established quality and productivity benchmarks while managing the DNFB to minimize uncoded days

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification as a Certified Physician Coder - Apprentice (CPC-A) or Certified Outpatient Coder - Apprentice (COC-A) required; CPC or COC preferred
• Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and meet productivity standards
