Job Summary
Working remotely in a permanent position, the Certified Outpatient Coder will be responsible for accurately assigning medical codes for outpatient encounters, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and facilitating proper claims submissions.
Key responsibilities
- Review and analyze outpatient medical records to abstract diagnoses, procedures, and services accurately
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with official coding guidelines
- Collaborate with the revenue cycle team to address coding-related claim denials and clarify documentation with healthcare providers
Required qualifications
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of outpatient medical coding experience
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software
