Job Summary
To ensure accurate reimbursement and data integrity, the full-time remote Certified Outpatient Coder will assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for various outpatient services, while maintaining compliance with coding guidelines and corporate billing policies.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews and assigns appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient records, ensuring compliance with coding regulations
- Codes a variety of outpatient encounters, including emergency department visits and outpatient surgeries
- Collaborates with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) specialists and billing teams to ensure complete and accurate coding
Required qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or GED required
- 1-3 years of outpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital or healthcare system required
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) - AAPC required
- Associate Degree in Health Information Management or Medical Coding preferred
- Experience coding emergency department visits and outpatient procedures preferred
