Certified Outpatient Coding Specialist

Job Summary

To support outpatient coding needs, the remote Certified Outpatient Coding Specialist will be responsible for coding retrospective outpatient accounts using ICD-10 CM and CPT, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines while maintaining quality and productivity standards.

Key responsibilities

• Code outpatient accounts accurately, identifying primary diagnoses, procedures, and necessary modifiers
• Abstract required data elements and review accounts in denial work queues, making recommendations as needed
• Mentor and train on designated coding service lines to ensure adherence to quality standards

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 3 years of acute hospital-based coding experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Certification as a Certified Outpatient Coding Specialist or equivalent coding certification
• Expert knowledge of coding guidelines and practices
• Experience working in a remote environment preferred
