Job Summary
To support optimal reimbursement and compliance, the full-time remote Certified Outpatient Medical Coder will review clinical documentation and assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered while collaborating with clinical teams to improve documentation practices.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor outpatient coding work queues and unbilled accounts to ensure timely claims submission
- Review patient medical records to assign and sequence codes according to industry-standard guidelines
- Collaborate with providers to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy based on organizational policy
Required qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in health information management or related field preferred
- Active Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent credential required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of medical coding experience in an outpatient or specialty setting
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Proficient with EHR and coding software (e.g., 3M, EncoderPro, Epic, Cerner)
