Chief Architect - Optical Communication

Job Summary

Seeking a highly skilled Chief Architect - Optical Communication for a full-time position based in Broomfield, Colorado, with the option for partial remote work, who will design, implement, and optimize free-space optical communication terminals for government and commercial customers while leading engineering activities from concept through launch.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities for optical communications payloads, ensuring system and subsystem requirements meet space environment standards
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop integrated communication solutions, focusing on system architecture and performance metrics
• Conduct hardware/software validation and provide technical support for integration and troubleshooting of optical systems

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Free Space Optical communication systems, including optical system design and validation
• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Practical experience with fiber optic and free-space optics laboratory setups
• Strong understanding of wavefront errors, SNR, BER, and link budgets
• Experience with optical simulation/modelling tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V, MATLAB, Python)
