Covering New York City politics, the full-time City Hall Reporter will compile the First Read newsletter, produce quick news stories, and write in-depth magazine articles on political dynamics while working onsite in New York City.

Key responsibilities

• Compile the First Read newsletter every morning from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m
• Produce quick hits and daily stories about the New York City Council and mayoral administration
• Pitch and write 1-2 in-depth magazine stories on New York City politics and policy each month

Required qualifications

• Demonstrated curiosity about the New York City political landscape
• Meticulous fact-checking skills
• Dedication to the craft of writing
• 1-2 years of experience covering political news in New York is a plus
• Residency in the New York City area
