Job Summary

To lead the legal strategy behind critical payments partnerships, the full-time Commercial Counsel, State Licensed, will manage the drafting, negotiation, and execution of complex commercial agreements while collaborating cross-functionally to accelerate Coinbase's growth in a remote-first environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own drafting, negotiation, and execution of tailored commercial agreements with strategic partners in the payments and fintech space
• Drive the development of novel agreement frameworks and provide business-centric legal advice that balances risk with flexibility
• Build scalable commercial playbooks and risk-mitigation strategies to enhance deal timelines and business adaptability

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of transactional legal experience in-house or at a leading law firm, with a JD and an active license in a U.S. state
• Expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements with fintechs, banks, and payment networks
• Ability to navigate regulated financial services environments and translate regulatory changes into actionable guidance
• Experience managing a high-volume deal pipeline with precision in drafting and risk assessment
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly to enhance workflow efficiency and quality
