Job Summary
To support rare disease research at the National Institutes of Health, the Cybersecurity Research Assistant will implement and monitor security controls, develop AI tooling, and gain hands-on experience in a remote, entry-level position.
Key responsibilities
- Implement security controls and configuration changes across Kubernetes, Linux, and database environments
- Build and operate monitoring and detection systems, including metrics collection and log aggregation
- Run vulnerability scans, track findings, and maintain documentation for security reviews
Required qualifications
- 1-3 years of professional experience in IT, systems administration, or a similar technical role
- Comfortable using the Linux command line and scripting in Bash and Python
- Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity through coursework, personal projects, or relevant experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Basic understanding of networking concepts and familiarity with containers, particularly Kubernetes
