Data Engineering Director

Job Summary

A company is looking for a Data Engineering Director to build and manage its newsroom's data engineering function.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor data engineers, set technical direction, and remove blockers
• Design scalable data systems that adapt to shifting newsroom priorities
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and build critical data pipelines

Required Qualifications

• Strong expertise in Python for data ingestion, transformation, and pipeline development
• Proven experience with REST APIs, web scraping, and data acquisition techniques
• Experience optimizing BigQuery table design and query performance
• Familiarity with Dagster+ for orchestration and dbt for building transformation frameworks
• Demonstrated track record of technical mentorship and team management
