Database Administrator

Job Summary

To support a mission-critical federal government client, the full-time remote Database Administrator will manage PostgreSQL administration, oversee migration from SAP ASE to PostgreSQL, and ensure database performance and security in a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in administering and maintaining PostgreSQL environments, including performance tuning and backup/recovery strategies
• Lead database design efforts, query optimization, and troubleshooting while supporting schema conversions and data migrations
• Oversee daily operations, including ticket triage, mentoring a small DBA team, and coordinating with project management

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of database administration experience, including expertise in PostgreSQL and SAP ASE
• Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning
• Experience leading or managing a small DBA team
• Proficiency in SQL and one or more shell scripting languages (Bash, Korn, etc.)
• 4-year degree in an IT-related field or equivalent professional experience
