Development Director

Job Summary

Leading and growing philanthropic efforts, the full-time salaried Development Director will focus on building a major gifts program, cultivating relationships with donors, and developing a fundraising strategy in a remote capacity.

Key responsibilities

• Build and direct a major gifts program, developing a portfolio of major donors and creating campaigns for transformational gifts
• Hire and supervise the development team, fostering collaboration and accountability while coordinating with the CEO and Board on fundraising efforts
• Devise and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, overseeing existing initiatives and aligning them with the organization's growth goals

Required qualifications

• At least 6 years of experience in nonprofit development with a proven track record of securing individual gifts in the five and six figures
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain donor relationships, with experience in both individual and foundation fundraising
• Strong writing skills for proposals, donor communications, and fundraising materials
• Experience managing a team and developing effective fundraising strategies using data and evidence
• Ability to communicate the importance of local journalism and engage stakeholders in a compelling manner
