Developmental Editor

Job Summary

Working remotely, the part-time Developmental Editor will collaborate with authors to enhance manuscript structure, clarity, and argumentation while ensuring adherence to Islamic scholarship standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identifying weaknesses in the manuscript's argument and structure, including gaps in research and areas needing expansion
• Reorganizing and rewriting passages to improve clarity and tone while preserving the author's voice
• Communicating directly with authors to suggest edits and incorporate peer-review feedback into drafts

Required qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in developmental editing of long-form, non-fiction manuscripts, preferably in religion or related fields
• Experience working collaboratively with authors and scholars through iterative revisions
• Strong audience awareness with the ability to adapt complex arguments for diverse readers
• Proven critical analysis skills to identify inconsistencies and formulate sound arguments
• Grounding in Islamic sciences with the ability to engage critically with religious content
