Director of Data and AI Engineering

Job Summary

Leading a combined data platform and AI/ML practice, the full-time remote Director of Data and AI Engineering will manage a growing team of data engineers and AI specialists, driving the development of machine learning models and data infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency and competitive advantage.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a 10-person data engineering team and a 3-person AI/ML team, overseeing headcount planning and hiring
• Lead the development of ML models using proprietary insurance data and drive AI automation across operations
• Set architectural standards for data pipelines and ensure data quality and governance across the platform

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, ML engineering, or AI/data science with depth in at least two areas
• 3+ years of experience managing technical teams, specifically in data and ML/AI disciplines
• Hands-on fluency in Python and SQL, with experience in reviewing production ML code and data pipelines
• Experience building and deploying ML models using structured business data
• Production experience with LLMs, including RAG architectures and prompt design
