Director of Engineering

Job Summary

To support the expansion of institutional trading capabilities, the remote Director of Engineering will build and lead a high-performing engineering team, define the engineering roadmap, and collaborate with senior leadership to enhance Alpaca's multi-asset trading architecture.

Key responsibilities:

• Define, own, and execute the engineering roadmap for the institutional trading platform
• Build and scale a high-performing engineering team with a strong culture of ownership and execution
• Lead architectural decisions and coordinate initiatives across trading, risk, margin, and customer-facing tooling

Required qualifications:

• Director-level engineering leader with experience in critical, market-facing platforms
• Proven experience in building and scaling engineering teams focused on complex systems
• Deep understanding of institutional trading and brokerage technology
• Experience designing systems that support cross-asset risk and margining
• Strong architectural judgment in regulated environments
