Director of FP&A, R&D

Job Summary

Partnering closely with engineering, product, and data leaders, the full-time Director of FP&A, R&D will manage the R&D operating plan, oversee budget and headcount planning, and drive financial efficiency in a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own the R&D budget, forecast, and headcount plan, driving re-forecast cycles and hiring plans
• Build analyses to influence build-vs-buy, pricing, and infrastructure decisions, while supporting vendor negotiations
• Deliver concise reporting and variance commentary to the CFO and board, ensuring financial rigor in R&D spending decisions

Required qualifications

• 8+ years in FP&A or corporate finance, with experience supporting R&D or technical organizations
• Strong understanding of SaaS and AI economics, including cost of revenue and gross margin
• Proficiency in SQL (BigQuery preferred) and advanced Excel/Sheets modeling
• Ability to engage with technical leaders and translate complex technical work into financial insights
• Experience in high-growth AI/ML companies and familiarity with modern data stacks is a plus
