Director of Machine Learning Engineering

Job Summary

Leading the Content and User Understanding team, the full-time Director of Machine Learning Engineering will define the long-term ML/AI vision, drive execution of innovative models and systems, and manage multiple teams of engineers to deliver impactful solutions across Pinterest's product surfaces, with a flexible remote work arrangement requiring occasional in-office collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Set the multi-year vision and technical strategy for content and user understanding ML models and systems
• Ensure effective and scalable deployment of foundational ML models across various Pinterest applications
• Manage and develop a high-performing team of machine learning and backend engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence

Required qualifications

• 12+ years of professional experience in technical leadership, including 5+ years in people leadership roles
• Technical degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
• Deep expertise in building and operating large-scale ML systems in recommendation, ads, or search
• Proven success in leading complex ML organizations and exceptional communication skills
• Experience with large-scale deep learning, VLM, and LLM approaches
